18U Black Girls – VFX Winter Challenge – Rochester

18U Black travelled to Rochester in March to play in the VFX Winter Challenge. There were 6 Canadian teams in the 40 team 18U division.

The first round saw DA win the pool with a 6-0 record, including a 25-4 set. Round two put us in the top eight teams where the competition was tougher. A 1-5 record included three very close games where we lost each by two points.

The pre-quarter saw a very determined Forest City Green edge out a victory. Our last match of the tournament was against DRVC.  We convinced the Canadian referee to let us use the OVA ball (Mikasa MVA200) in our final match of tournament. The first set was back and forth but eventually DRVC won 25-23 and went on to win the match. In the end DA placed 10th .

It was a terrific weekend overall and a great warm up for the next OVA tournament at the end of the month. Special thanks to Hayley Todd, sister to Head Coach Kim Todd for her assistance during the tournament!
