U17 BOYS GOLD MEDAL !

Posted in 2011-2012, 2012 Boys 17U Black on March 29, 2012 by durhamattackboysu16

The long trip to Casselman on the weekend was well worth it, with our boys capturing the gold medal!

Pool play opened with a strong, straight sets victory over Barrie Elites. They followed up against a strong Ottawa Mavericks squad a bit slow, but after trailing 10 – 2 in the first set they won that one 29 – 27. That woke them up and they took set two with aggressive, powerful all-round play, 25 – 18.

Pool play concluded with a solid straight sets win over ACTS Elites. This gave the team a by to the semi-finals.

After a long layoff, the boys started very slow against a smaller but scrappy Markham Stingers team. They dropped the first set but came back and won the second 25 – 16. Set three was close, but Attack led all the way and won 15 – 12.

The gold medal match-up was with the (close to) hometown Ottawa Mavericks. This is a big and talented team.  Our boys decided about halfway through the first set that they wanted to go home with gold medals…….so they took charge and won this one in straight sets! All players worked hard and contributed to this winning effort!

This team is definitely making some noise, taking this 18U gold in tier two and taking the last two silvers in Tier one 17U. We look forward to a strong showing at the provincials where they are ranked third going in!
All the best boys!

Boys’ 17U Attack Take Second Consecutive Silver In Premier Division

Posted in 2011-2012, 2012 Boys 17U Black on March 5, 2012 by durhamattackboysu16

This past weekend in Kingston, at the historic and beautiful Royal Military College campus, 17U Attack confirmed its status as one of the top teams in the province.

Opening against a very strong Breakers team, Attack won the first set 25 -22, but lost the match. Next up was the Georgetown Impact……the boys stepped it up winning set one 25 – 17, and took this one solidly in two sets. With Impact defeating Breakers this gave Attack first spot in the pool.

In the quarters we faced a well-rounded Pegasus team. The boys were on and opened 25 -15 and went on to win in two sets. This set up a semi-final with a somewhat surprisingly strong Forest City team. Attack once again took the first set, 25 -23. Set two went to Forest City, forcing a third with the winner going to the gold medal match. Attack was up to the challenge and won it 15 – 9.

Pakmen 17U was the opponent for the gold. It was a very hard fought match with the lead going back and forth. Attack lost 23 – 25 in set one and also battled extremely hard in the second set, but lost 21 – 25.

Clearly the field is getting tight at the 17U level, with a lot of teams raising the level of play and fighting for medals. By taking a second consecutive Premier division silver medal, our boys and coaches have established themselves as a team to be reckoned with and a genuine gold medal contender!

Good luck in the Provincials team!

Silver for 17U Boys at McGregor Cup – Premier!

Posted in 2011-2012, 2012 Boys 17U Black on February 21, 2012 by durhamattackboysu16

In Kitchener on February 4th, pool play started very well for the boys with a straight set victory over Forest City.
Next up was Predators Purple on their home turf. The third-ranked Preds were tough but the match was very close, with Attack narrowly dropping this one.
After a break the team faced a strong Pakmen 16U team in the quarters. The boys played very well , defeating the Pakmen in straight sets, 28 – 26, 26 -24. Next up was Georgetown Impact in the semi-finals. The Impact is a well-coached team that has done well in the past, but the Attack was hitting its stride and defeated Impact 25 -20, 26 -24.
In the gold medal final of this 17U Premier division, the first set was a hard fought one, with Attack dropping it 27-25. The next set unfortunately wasn’t as close.
This team has exceptional strength and depth, and this very strong result demonstrates that the boys are among the provincial elite. We look forward to more gold medal matches in the future!

U17 Boys open the season with a Bronze

Posted in 2011-2012, 2012 Boys 17U Black on November 22, 2011 by durhamattackboysu16

In the opening tournament of the season, our U17 Boys played a strong tournament in Oakville, despite having a short bench. With Blake and Andy out, the team relied on nine players to carry things along. Blake and Andy were on hand, despite their injury/illness, and this just shows how dedicated this team is.

The team opened against the Breakers and led by some strong hitting from Jeff and the two Ethans, the Attack won both sets 25-22, 25-24.
Next up was STVC Phoenix. Attack started to hit its stride and took this one fairly easily, 25-9, 25-11. John was solid passing and hitting, Kyle’s serves were especially strong, and Mac had an all-around fine match.

In the quarter-finals it was Barrie Elites up first. The Attack was once again hitting on all cylinders, with Wells setting nicely and Cole and Jeff putting them away consistently. Connor established his presence throughout this match as well as earlier with excellent hitting …. like Ethan B, he was swinging at every opportunity, and with great success!
In the semis it was a very big and strong Onyx team, and although the team came back to make it close in the second set, the Attack lost this one, sending us on to the bronze medal match vs Attack U16. This was a good solid match with stong play on both sides of the court. The U16 team was playing very well in this tournament, but the U17 Boys prevailed to win the bronze.

Both teams are off to the Premier Division in London on December 10th.  Good luck team!
