13U ATTACK BLACK MAKES SEMI-FINALS AT PROVINCIAL TIER ONE CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Posted in 2011-2012, 2012 Girls 13U Black on April 4, 2012 by durhamattackboysu16

Out of 43 teams from across the province, the 13U Attack Black team was a strong medal contender this past weekend.
Starting pool play on Saturday, the fourth ranked Attack faced the Markham Stingers, ranked fifth. The girls were a little slow getting started but got into things as the match moved along, however they dropped this one in three sets to the eventual gold medal winners by scores of 28-26, 23-25, 8-15.
Next up was the eighth ranked STVC Supernova. Attack played well and took this one in straight sets, 25-21, 25-15.
Pool play ended with a match against top-ranked Forest City, which is a disciplined, well-rounded team that had not lost a match all year. Attack played pretty well but ended up losing in two, 23-25, 17-25.
Sunday saw the team play its best volleyball of the weekend. In the pre-quarters, it was the Stingers B team and Attack made short work of this match, taking it 25 – 15, 25- 16.
In the quarter-final the team faced a Leaside team that had earlier scored an upset over sixth-ranked Niagara Rapids Black. Attack Black was on its game and handled this one easily, 25-13, 25-9.
It was now on to the medal round!
Facing Ms Pakmen, which had just defeated previously unbeaten Forest City, and had split mid-season matches with the Attack, the team knew it would be a tough match. This one was an exceptional one indeed! The opening set was tough with Pakmen getting off to an early lead. Attack dropped that one 23-25………but took charge in the second set and dominated 25 – 15. It was a very loud crowd that saw Attack go up 6-2, then make the turn at 8-6……..and then Attack went up 13 -11, but unfortunately it was not to be and they fell 13-15.
It was such an emotional match that the team really wasn’t ready for the bronze medal match, and they fell 20 – 25, 18 – 25 to third-ranked Aurora Storm.
Overall this was a highly commendable team effort. A special thanks to Chris Williamson for his coaching expertise on Saturday, ably assisted by Mike Cirone, and as always to Carol & Don for their great work with the players.
Next up is 14U provincials………..where we expect to challenge every team we meet!

A Golden Weekend for 13U Girls’ Attack Black

Posted in 2011-2012, 2012 Girls 13U Black on March 5, 2012 by durhamattackboysu16

With a win at the 14U Hawkins Cup in Peterborough, the 13U Girls’ brought home another gold medal!

Pool play got off to a strong start with the top-ranked Attack Black 13U seeing victories over 14U Attack White followed by Stingers White.  These were solid team efforts with everyone contributing.

Quarter-final action saw our girls face Aurora Storm. The girls started a bit slowly but soon commanded the match, winning in straight sets. It was now on to the semi-finals against the Ms Pakmen 13U team which had narrowly beaten Attack in the last 13U tournament.  With the entire team playing consistently strong throughout the day, the Attack settled this one, 25 – 15, 19 – 25, 15 – 8, to move into the gold medal final.

Up against the hometown Thunder, our girls started very well going up by ten in the first set. The Thunder narrowed the lead but Attack held them off winning set one 25 – 21.  This shook off any feelings of complacency by our girls, and Attack handled them in set two, 25 – 16

This is a hardworking, very talented and deep team. Good luck in the Provincials girls!

Silver for GIRLS’ U13 BLACK ATTACK in Stratford !

Posted in 2011-2012, 2012 Girls 13U Black on February 28, 2012 by durhamattackboysu16

Despite Justin Bieber being a no-show for the tournament in Stratford, the DA U13 Girls had lots of excitement on the court!
It was a good start to pool play with an opening straight set win over MVC from Hamilton, 25-18, 25-7.  Next up was the hometown Stratford Stingers.  This was another strong effort with Attack taking it 25-13, 25-5.
In the third match of pool play the girls came up against the Ms Pakmen team which was travelling with eight players for this tournament.  It was a very close match with Attack dropping it 23-25, 24-26.
The quarters saw Attack take on Niagara Blue and it was a 25-11, 25-9 victory to move into the semis.  In the semis it was a previously unbeaten Niagara Rapids Black team that the girls were facing.  This was a good match, with Attack prevailing 25-21, 25-14.
In the gold medal match it was once again Attack against Ms Pakmen with their shortened bench.  This one went to three sets with Attack losing the first set 24-26, then winning the second 25-18 to force a third set.  Unfortunately set three was not a good one and the Attack settled for a silver medal.
Kelly who is still recovering from appendicitis was there to provide leadership and once she’s back in the lineup this team will be unstoppable!  All the girls are to be congratulated for their hard work, and team effort!  Well done girls and coaches !

SILVER FOR 13U GIRLS BLACK AT 14U McGREGOR CUP!

Posted in 2011-2012, 2012 Girls 13U Black on February 9, 2012 by durhamattackboysu16

At the end of January it was unclear if the girls would even play this tournament. A double booking of gyms in Peterborough found this division with nowhere to play. Thankfully a local club stepped up to host and find a new gym right here in Ajax – and we are sure glad they did.

Pool play started very well for the girls with a solid straight set victory over Etobicoke 381 Red. Set one was 25 – 7 with the team getting solid contributions from Taylor and Kiara, and Cameron serving six straight to finish the set. The next set was 25 – 16, and the team showed its depth once again with Bianca passing and serving, Carleigh S setting, and Meagan hitting.

Next up was Etobicoke Titans Blue……..and despite getting a boost by having Kelly arrive to cheer on her teammates as she recuperates, the girls were a bit sluggish losing this match in three sets 25-15, 23-25, 14-16.

After an extended break of over 3 hours, the girls faced DRVC Orange in the quarter finals. In this one, the Attack played some of its best volleyball of the day with Ashley F and Ashleigh S passing and setting, Jordan passing, and Carly F hitting and setting and serving six or seven in a row to win the first set 25 – 21. Carleigh S served out the second set with a great run 25-17.

In the semis against Aurora Storm, the Attack was in full stride. Kaitlyn continued her very strong play with solid serving and hitting. Kiara had great play at the net as well as passing and serving, and Carleigh S was setting everyone nicely. Taylor and Meagan continued to swing hard throughout this match. The Attack won in straight sets 25-9 and a much closer 27-25, to move into the gold medal match.

Playing three consecutive matches after such a long break earlier in the day, the girls were somewhat tired going into the finals. Nevertheless they gave the STVC prime a good match 20-25, 18-25, taking the silver in this 14U tournament. It was a hard fought match and a tough loss but this is definitely a team to watch as it continues to develop. The team has exceptional strength and depth and is fortunate to have such a dedicated tandem of very positive, character-building coaches; Carol & Don.

13U Girls Black bring home the gold in McGregor Cup action!

Posted in 2011-2012, 2012 Girls 13U Black on January 31, 2012 by durhamattackboysu16

On January 21, playing on home turf at Maxwell Heights S.S., the 13U Girls’ Black captured another gold medal.
Pool play saw the girls defeat Scarborough Titans (25-9, 25-13), Maverick Rattlers (25-14, 25-5) and Akwesasne Soaring Eagles (25-6, 25-12). All the girls played well, and they pulled together despite some injuries and illness.
In the quarters it was the Attack Silver first up. This was a good match with solid fundamentals displayed by both teams. The Silver team worked hard and there were a number of good rallies, but Black Attack took this one 25-15, 25-16.
In the semis it was the Durham Attack Red team providing the strong opposition. Once again it was a good match with strong skill and effort on the part of both teams. Black Attack made played consistently to win the first set 25-9. They also took the second set 25-13. Both teams should be proud of the way they played.
In the gold medal match it was Scarborough Titans SuperNova, who had also gone undefeated throughout the day. All-around play was the name of the game for the Black Attack, with great passing, setting and hitting. Once again, the girls started slow but soon took over the match winning in straight sets 25-17, 25 – 18.
All the Durham Attack teams are to be congratulated for their excellent skill development, great team spirit, and ‘never-say-die’ attitude.
Congratulations to the 13U Attack Black as gold medal winners in the McGregor Cup!

Challenge Cup Gold for 13U Girls’ Attack Black !

Posted in 2011-2012, 2012 Girls 13U Black on December 16, 2011 by durhamattackboysu16

On Saturday the 10th of December, at the Challenge Cup in Stouffville, the girls arrived ready to play!

Opening against Attack Silver the team was faced with a talented opposition that never gave up on balls, kept their spirits up and worked hard at all aspects of the game. Attack Black was up to the challenge and showed its depth and strength as a team winning in straight sets by sizable margins. It was a good start for the all-round style game that this team is rapidly developing. Strong hitting was evident from Kiara, Kelly, and Carleigh right off the bat, and the team missed only one serve in the entire match.

Next up were the Scarborough Titans Tektonics, and Attack Black once again showed its domination, winning in straight sets. Solid play came from Jordan swinging hard, Cameron passing, Ashleigh F setting, and Bianca working to ensure balls didn’t hit the floor.

With first in the pool, it was now on to the playoff round!

First up was…none other than Durham Attack Red! They’re a motivated, disciplined, and very well-coached group of girls……..just like Attack Silver, and Attack Black!
Attack Black was just too strong, and played great volleyball; serving, passing, setting, and hitting. Carly, Ashley S and Taylor were all solid, and the team prevailed.

In the semi-finals a very solid Markham Stingers team was the opposition. All players needed to get focused and ensure they were at their best because the Stingers had played them very tough in an earlier tournament. The girls were outstanding…… Megan and Kaitlyn saved some of their best volleyball for this match, with all players contributing. Attack won the semi 25 – 19 and 25 – 20.

In the gold medal match our girls continued to be unstoppable, playing loose and confident, and winning in straight sets over Scarborough Titans 25-10 and 25-14. It was another tremendous day of volleyball and teambuilding with the girls going undefeated throughout.

Girls – Live daringly, boldly, fearlessly. Taste the relish to be found in competition – in having put forth the best within you.

Next stop, Barrie and the 14U Championship division.
